Self Validation. How often do you look outside yourself to others for validating your thoughts, beliefs, opinions, feelings or behaviors? We all do it on some level, feedback is important and stretches us into strength and positivity. But what happens when the validation of others becomes a driving force in how you view yourself – especially in negative ways?
When seeking validation from others leads to negative thoughts, behaviors or beliefs, unhealthy attachment begins to form. The constant checks and balances of others can lead you down a path that’s less than desired. Soaking in all the opinions of others leaves little room for your authentic thoughts about the matter you originally wanted the feedback for. This pattern of inauthenticity widens the gap between knowing yourself and becoming the actor in your own life.
