5 Ways You Can Boost Your Self-Esteem

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” – Buddha

The way we feel about ourselves has a direct impact on everything that we do.

By definition, self-esteem is the ‘confidence you have in your capabilities.’ For psychologists, self-esteem is your ‘evaluation of your worth’. It is a psychological construct that affects your future achievements, failures, beliefs, fears, and happiness.

But here is the good news…

You are completely in control of how you see yourself and what you feel about your worth. You can change the way you look at yourself, redefine your beliefs, defeat your fears, and take control of everything in your life!

All you need is a positive mindset and a belief in yourself. With renewed self-esteem, you can:

Ø   Enjoy inner peace, stability, and emotional resilience.

Ø   Never succumb to your fears and self-sabotage your achievements.

Ø   Have healthier relationships.

Ø   View challenges and obstacles from a different perspective.

Ø   Have more positivity, more energy, and more light in your life.

Ø   Be happy!

I know you are thinking, ‘it’s easier said than done.’ That is why I have compiled a list of 5 ways you can change your self-image, regain your self-confidence, and elevate your emotional intelligence.

Let’s get started…

 1.     Dress for it!

What you see when you look into the mirror every day, impacts the way you picture yourself. You can get up and conquer the world in PJs, but it never hurts to wear something nice.

Over the years, I have seen that having a little self-care routine strengthens your self-love and improves how you value yourself. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to look nice. A shower, a shave, something nice to wear, and a squirt of a good cologne can help you feel good, and start your day with a better self-image.

 2.     Photoshop your Life

People with low self-esteem are often scared to say no. They find it hard to set limits, and as a result, surround themselves with people who foster their low self-esteem.

The day you decide it is time to change, is the day you need to cut all negativity out of your life. This includes the people who bring you down, undermine your authority, and make you question your capabilities.

Quick tip—list down what you feel when you are around such people. And tell yourself that you will never let anyone make you feel like that again!

 3.     Change the Way you Speak to Yourself

What others say and do to us is important, but not as important as how we speak to ourselves.

Instead of saying things like:

o   I cannot do it.

o   This is too tough for me!

o   Why am I like this?

o   Why can’t I feel confident?

Say ‘Stop’ to the criticizer inside you. Calm down and say things that can bring more positivity to the situation.

Say positive things to yourself like:

ü I can try my best to do it (or) I can do it!

ü This cannot be that hard.

ü I can control my feelings.

ü I am confident that I can act confident until I feel confident.

 4.     Set Smaller Goals

Don’t push yourself too hard. When you are trying to change your self-image and boost your self-esteem, it is important to set smaller goals.

Think of these goals like steppingstones towards the greater price—a rejuvenated You! Celebrate your success when you reach a step. The more you appreciate yourself, the more you will feel motivated to continue trying.

5.     Get Help

When in doubt, consult an expert.  As an individual, you are already capable of healing yourself. However, an experienced coach can help you reboot your self-esteem through tried and tested techniques tailored for your unique needs.

 Boosting your Self-Esteem—Wrapping up…

When you are struggling with low self-esteem, low confidence, fear, and disbelief in yourself, you need a guided roadmap to change. Change happens through a changed mindset and most importantly the willingness to make it happen.

The fact that you made it to the end of this post, tells me that you are passionate to make the change happen, boost your self-esteem, and take control of your life.
