Dementia Caregivers: They Need Us to Enter Their World.

"Is this one of those moments...am I expecting them to enter my world?"

This is the first installment on what will be my lunchtime series on the topic of caregiving and dementia.

So often we expect our loved ones with dementia to still understand our conversations and follow along when we ask them to do anything. While early in the disease this is still possible, middle & late stage loved ones with dementia need us to enter their world – everyday; we can’t expect them to enter ours. I explain what I mean in this short video. This is a topic I lecture on often; I chose this picture because this picture was taken on a day I spoke on how to work around difficult behaviors; a topic I know can be avoided if more caregivers practiced this one, short lesson. I’m going to expand on it in the future.
