“Don’t drink poison just because you are thirsty.” When he shows you who he is believe him. Those character traits that he is displaying is showing you the trajectory of the relationship, the trajectory of how you’re going to be treated and feeling in the future. There are exceptions to the rule but you’re probably not it. If this man needs to work on himself let him go do just that… by himself!. Yes you invested time, money, and your body into this relationship/situationship; now you’re emotionally attached with a (soul-tie). Look at it as an investment, a expensive investment into yourself and now the lesson has been learned.
