How to build a support system as a single mom

This post is for the single moms out there that are trying their best to raise their children on their own.  As a single mom, that lost her mother in 2011 and does not have a relationship with her father, I know first hand how hard it can be to raise a child without a support system. I myself became a single mom during my first year of law school. During that time, I was alone without much support. It was mostly just me and my daughter. I realize how hard this can be emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally. I did not realize the importance of having a support system until my daughter was about 3 years old. Now, 5 years later, I fully understand the importance of having a support system and became much more intentional about developing my tribe. So, here are some ways that you can build a support system as a single mom:

1) Join Single Mom Facebook/Instagram groups in your area

2) Reach out to local churches to find out if they have a single parent ministry

3) Connect with other moms at your child’s school

4) Start your own blog, or vlog dedicated to single moms and connect with your readers.

These are just some suggestions and is not an exhaustive list. The important thing is that you take initiative, be patient, and use discernment when deciding on who to connect with.  Being a single mom can be tough at times, but you do not have to go on this journey alone. There are people out there (including myself) that will support you and help you while on this journey!
