Let’s Talk About Carbs!

Hi There! 

During my nutrition course I learned a lot about Carbs (short for Carbohydrates) and I wanted to share keys points with you: 

  • Usually when we think about CARBS, we think about foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, or crackers. Keep in mind that fruits, vegetables, and dairy include carbohydrates too
  • Eating carbs makes you gain weight is a MYTH. Let me explain, All carbs are not created equal. Some carbs are foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. 
    • In order to gain weight you have to be in a caloric surplus  (we will talk about that in anther blog post)
  • There are simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple Carbs are easier to digest; HOWEVER because they are easier to digest it takes longer for you to feel full, making you more likely to overeat (Think a donut…from Krispy Crème..Yummy – okay back on track)
  • Complex Carbs are what you want to lean towards. They have more fibers and less sugar (think whole grains, vegetables, some fruits).
