YOUNG MAN FEELING STRESSED NW FB CEEFB

The Holy Spirit Knows EVERYTHING!

One of my favorite scriptures is Colossians 2:3, “In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” It is personal to me. As a PhD student in English, I was required to take comprehensive exams in four areas of literature. I passed three of the exams the first time, but I found the exam in British Literature quite challenging. After failing the exam twice, I thought about giving up — packing my bags and heading back home to Memphis. I figured maybe this PHD journey was not for me.

By God’s grace, I decided to give the exam another try. One night while reading the works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, I began to internally complain. God heard me and began to speak to my heart. I remember him saying, “Trela, who do you think inspired Samuel Taylor Coleridge to write his works?” “It was me,” the Holy Spirit said. “And since I inspired him to write them, who would know more about them than me?”

At this point, the Holy Spirit began coaching me on how to study for the exam. He instructed me to read biographical information on Coleridge, and I discovered he was born on October 21, 1772. I was born on October 20, 1971. We were both October babies! Now, I felt a connection to him. My heart and mind opened to the Holy Spirit and his expertise as a teacher, even as a literary critic. That night, God reminded me that He is more than willing and able to help me succeed as a student. As the scripture in Colossians says, God holds ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. In other words, HE KNOWS EVERYHING! Of course, I passed my British Literature exam and was able to move on to writing an almost 200-page dissertation. And guess what. He helped me do that, too!
